Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital is started in 2010 by the Government of Tamil Nadu with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students. The campus spread over 42 acres on the Chennai - Trichy highway in Mundiyampakkam 7km from the Villupuram town and 5 KM from the popular Vikravandi Highway Toll booth. The college is well connected by road and nearest Railway Station is Villupuram which is 11 km from the College. Nearest Airport is Puducherry airport which is connected with daily flights from Bangalore and Hyderabad which is 40KM from College Campus. As per MCI/National Medical Commission norms, College has all the necessary infrastructure and clinical materials with full faculty position. As of today all there is no vacancy in the medical teachers level. Now the College is having total annual intake of 100 UG students,44 PG students in 7 departments (Medicine, Surgery, OG, Pediatrics, Anaesthesia, Orthopedics and Opthalmology) In addition, GVMCH is always chosen as a institute for implementing the govts' programs. This hospital is a trauma nodal centre in the hub and spoke model of TAEI program, it is a upgraded institute under the Maternal Child Health Program. District ART centre, District Early intervention centre, Emergency Care Recovery Centre all function in the campus of the college hospital. There's a facility for hostels boys and girls for MBBS and PG students with inhouse dining facility. Staff quarters for doctors and nurses are present inside the campus and all the apartments are occupied. The entire campus is secured by the securities of private outsourcing agency 24 hrs in addition to the Police Outpost inside the campus. Dean, Vice Principal, Medical Superintendent and RMO have their residence inside the hospital campus. Villupuram is a town filled and surrounded with history both religious and rulers. Gingee Fort, French colony, temples along the banks of River ThenPennai, agricultural fields and associated industries, shopping malls, theatres and restaurants with access to the international tourism spot of Puducherry.
